Margo Martindale After Her Emmy Win: “Let This Be The Year Of ‘The Americans’!”
Margo Martindale snagged her second best guest actress in a drama series Emmy Award tonight for playing Claudia on FX’s The Americans. Martindale’s two trophies are the only Emmy wins to date for the praised Cold War series, which had alluded TV Academy’s attention until this year when it finally landed its first ever nominations for best series, best lead actor (Matthew Rhys) and best lead actress (Keri Russell).
“I’m beyond thrilled for The Americans. Let this be The Year Of The Americans!” Martindale raved of the FX series when accepting her Emmy. “I am so honored to be nominated with these incredible women, and I love this show,” she said, thanking, among others, “the incredible John Landgraf.”
Landgraf is the CEO of FX, the network where Martindale has done the roles that have earned all of her five Emmy nominations and three wins so far. She has been nominated four times for The Americans, winning twice, and also won as a supporting actress on FX’s Justified.
Martindale, the first person to win this category two years running, said backstage she was particularly happy to have been nommed this year owing to The Americans’ various other noms, after years of snubs. “It felt slightly odd to have been the only one [nominated in the past],” she said.
“It’s a great part. I’m honored to have been part of this from the beginning,” Martindale continued, adding, “Had I had this kind of success when I was younger I don’t think it would have been good for me….I appreciate every moment and try to be in the moment – because I’m old.”
The impressive list of women that Martindale was referring to in her category this year included Carrie Preston, Laurie Matcalf, Ellen Burstyn, Molly Parker and Allison Janney.
Margo Martindale wore a Marina Rinaldi gown with Neil Lane jewelry and was dressed by celebrity fashion stylist Tod Hallman of THPFashion.
