Julian Ovenden

Julian Ovenden is a multi-faceted performer who has starred on Broadway and in London's West End, been seen in some of Great Britain's highest rated television series, performed his one-man show to sellout audiences in New York and Los Angeles and appeared on film. Currently, Julian can be seen on the ABC Television series, Cashmere Mafia, alongside Lucy Liu, Frances O'Connor and Miranda Otto. In May, he returns to the West End to star with Ruthie Henshall and Alexander Hanson in the highly anticipated new musical, Marguerite.

The son of the chaplain to the Queen of England, Julian grew up a musically gifted child in London. At the age of seven, he received a scholarship to sing in the choir at St. Paul's Cathedral and by thirteen was awarded a musical scholarship to Eton College. From Eton, he attended Oxford University on a choral scholarship. He then attended the Webber-Douglas Academy of Performing Arts in London where he was awarded an Arts Council Scholarship.

After finishing his postgraduate studies, he joined the Royal Shakespeare Company working with the Japanese director Yukio Ninagawa and Sir Nigel Hawthorne in a production of King Lear.

Julian earned the distinction of being the youngest actor to play a leading role at the world famous Donmar Warehouse when director Michael Grandage cast him in the Sondheim musical Merrily We Roll Along. He then went on to star in another Michael Grandage production at the Donmar Grand Hotel, opposite Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio. Both plays received the Olivier Award for Best Musical Production. Other theatre credits include a critically acclaimed lead performance in A Woman of No Importance from director Adrian Noble at London's Theatre Royal Haymarket and the Broadway production of Butley opposite Nathan Lane.

Julian has been working consistently in other mediums as well. He first starred in Working Title's romantic comedy Come Together with James D'Arcy and then won the hearts of women everywhere as the young doctor on The Royal. Julian then secured starring roles opposite Damian Lewis and Gina McKee in the award winning Granada Television miniseries The Forsyte Saga and appeared for four seasons as Andrew Foyle in the BAFTA nominated series Foyle's War. On the musical front, Julian has performed and recorded with the BBC Concert Orchestra and with the Ulster Symphony Orchestra at Waterfront Hall for A Tribute to Leonard Bernstein. In October 2006 and December 2007, he performed his one-man show at New York City's Metropolitan Room garnering rave reviews and a sold-out house.

Julian has also played a re-occurring role on the WB series Related and played opposite Kelsey Grammer in NBC's musical adaptation of A Christmas Carol for director Arthur Allan Seidelman.

Julian is single and divides his time between London, Los Angeles and New York.
